Son Goku and his comrades defend Earth against many villainous forces in Dragon Ball Z, the sequel to the first Dragon Ball series. The Earth’s safety is at risk from many dangerous foes; therefore, our heroes need equal strength and power.
Consequently, it will be interesting to see which of Dragon Ball Z’s warriors are the strongest. Let’s find out which Dragon Ball Z characters are the most powerful!
There are no other Dragon Ball Z characters in this list other than those featured in TV anime series and Dragon Ball Z movies from season 1 to season 9. The list also only includes individual characters, so fusion characters like Gotenk, Gogeta, and Vegito are not included.
1. Super Buu
When Evil Buu ate Good Buu, he created Super Buu, which was a very dangerous form of Buu. There were two things about this Super Buu: he was incredibly powerful, and he had an extremely bad temper.
Several sources claim that this version of Buu was prone to rage, and at times, he has even been known to tear dimensional walls in his rage.
The ability to absorb other warriors made Super Buu extremely dangerous, along with his power and maniacal character.
Gotenks (Gohan and Trunk’s combined form), Piccolo, and Ultimate Gohan were all capable of being absorbed by him. The Super Saiyan Blue Goku or Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta are unlikely to be threatened by Super Buu.
Vegito, the fusion form of Goku and Vegeta, was the only being that could defeat Super Buu back then.
2. Ultimate Gohan
It was said that Gohan was Goku’s first son who was capable of surpassing his father. During the Perfect Cell Saga, Gohan proved his potential by achieving Super Saiyan Level 2. There has never been another Saiyan who has been able to do that before.
Gohan’s true potential was unlocked by the Old Kai during the Majin Buu Saga. It is quite easy for Gohan to achieve Super Saiyan Level 3 once he unlocks this potential power.
With his Ultimate Gohan form, even if he didn’t reach Super Saiyan Level 3, he already had immense power. Super Buu – one of Dragon Ball Z’s most dangerous threats – could even be threatened by Gohan’s Ultimate power.
3. Kid Buu
It is probably safe to say that Kid Buu was among the most dangerous foes that Goku and his comrades had to face during the Kid Buu Saga.
Like his name suggests, Kid Buu possessed extremely childish characteristics. The problem was that he had no conscience or remorse, just like a spoiled brat.
When Kid Buu was a child, he spoke in childish terms, phrases such as “Me Buu, kill you!” The fact that he sounds childish does not mean he is a simple child. Aside from being the strongest version of Buu, Kid Buu was also the purest, darkest version of him.
He was one of Goku’s most dangerous foes not only for his might, but also for his maniacal, ruthless lust for destruction.
4. Hirudegarn
It is said that Hirudegarn was originally a statue of the Demon God who purified the hearts of people on planet Konats before being corrupted by the Kashvar mages and becoming the horrifying antagonist in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon.
Hirudegarn is a terrifying monster that can destroy anything in its path. It is in some ways a truly mindless destroyer without feeling, conscience, or remorse.
Throughout Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, Hirudegarn changed form several times, and he was an extremely powerful colossus. A Super Saiyan Level 2 Gotenks could easily be overpowered by its final form.
In the wake of Super Saiyan Level 3 Gotenks’ Continuous Die Die Missile attack on Hirudegarn, he only delayed the colossus’ onslaught for a few seconds. Hirudegarn was destroyed by Super Saiyan Level 3 Goku using his ultimate move: Dragon Fist.
5. Janemba
Dragon Ball Z Fusion Reborn features Janemba as the main antagonist. Initially, Janemba appeared to be a yellow fatty monster with strange holes on his shoulders and belly.
While he appeared to be good, he was really evil, a sinister being who was so powerful that he could even outclass Super Saiyan Level 3 Goku and Vegeta.
It was easy for Super Saiyan Level 3 to defeat him in his initial form as a fatty monster. The situation became extremely rough when he changed to his second form. He changed into a humanoid with red and purple armor in his second form. Vegeta and Goku couldn’t beat him even with the cooperation of Super Saiyan Level 3 Goku. To defeat him, Goku and Vegeta fused into Gogeta, his tremendous power.
6. Golden Frieza
Frieza was first introduced as the prime antagonist of the Frieza Saga in the Dragon Ball Z TV anime series. For a short time, his defeat by Goku and slashing into pieces by Future Trunk led him to become the conqueror of the worlds for a short time.
The fearsome villain made his return as a more powerful and wicked villain in Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F.
Through his lackeys’ efforts, Frieza was resurrected by the power of Dragon Balls after being defeated by Future Trunk. Due to Son Goku’s accomplishments and stronger power, he admitted that he would need stronger power.
He actually committed himself to training with the hope that he could defeat Goku for the first time in his life.
With Golden Frieza, Frieza attained even greater power, rivaling even Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue form. Ultimately, Frieza was defeated by Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F.
His defeat left him no choice but to destroy the entire planet. Earth, along with Vegeta, would not be able to exist without Whis’s time warping powers.
7. Vegeta
Vegeta was originally depicted as an evil Saiyan prince intent on dominating Earth. Despite Vegeta’s extreme cockiness and pride, Vegeta became Goku’s rival after Goku defeated Vegeta.
Vegeta has achieved Super Saiyan Levels 1 and 2 after continuously training to surpass Goku. He had no access to Super Saiyan Level 3 while Goku did.
The Super Saiyan Blue was out of Vegeta’s reach, but he still battled on par with Golden Frieza. The fact that Frieza had surpassed Golden Frieza forced him to destroy the entire Earth. They were able to defeat a variety of dangerous threats thanks to the fusion forms of Vegeta and Goku.
8. Son Goku
It is Goku who, by far, is the strongest mortal hero in Dragon Ball Z (unless you count fusion forms like Vegeta and Vegito). He achieves multiple levels of Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods, including Super Saiyan Blue.
It is not Son Goku’s greed or desire for power, control, or money that drives him to be a heroic figure. Taking up martial arts and protecting the planet are his primary goals when the time comes.
His resourcefulness has been demonstrated throughout the series when he has faced various powerful enemies.
Most Dragon Ball Z characters can be fought one-on-one by Goku, thanks to his signature Kamehameha move, the Spirit Bomb, and the double-edge technique Kaioken. His ranking on this list is therefore arguably third.
9. Beerus
Humanoid Beerus wears Egyptian garb often and resembles an Egyptian cat. Despite his small size, do not underestimate him just because of his appearance. It is his role to destroy every planet that poses a danger to the balance of the Universe as a God of Destruction of Universe 7.
Beerus is a God of Destruction with immense strength and power (as he can easily destroy planets) and his trainer Whis is his only weakness so far. Awakened from a slumber, Beerus searched for a new warrior who could defeat Frieza in Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods. Beerus found Goku eventually and challenged him to a fight. When Goku tried to spar with Beerus at Super Saiyan Level 3, he failed drastically.
As a result, Goku fought Beerus once more after achieving the power of Super Saiyan God. Although Goku survived longer in this fight, he wasn’t able to defeat Beerus. The battle between Beerus and Goku ended satisfactorily, and Beerus spared Earth.
10. Whis
Besides being Beerus’ martial arts mentor, we don’t know much about Whis’s personal background. It’s impossible to know the extent of Whis’s power, but based on what we have seen so far, he’s likely the strongest character in Dragon Ball Z.
Beerus said Goku was the second strongest battler he had faced in Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods. Based on that, Whis is undoubtedly Beerus’s strongest opponent.
It seems that Whis is capable of traveling at an extremely fast speed, and he can even reverse time. Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F, for instance, shows Whis bringing Goku and his comrades back three minutes before Frieza destroyed the Earth.
As a result, Goku successfully stopped Frieza from destroying Earth by delivering a fatal God Kamehameha hit.
While we haven’t seen much of Whis’s full power in Dragon Ball Super either, one thing is certain: Whis is among the strongest Dragon Ball characters, even stronger than Lord Beerus.
